Shut up, just shut up, shut up

6. T'as lu Twilight ?

2. On reste amis j'espère ?!

I could sleep forever these days, 'cause in my dreams I see you again

Except I can't actually "see you again" right now because I can't get any freaking sleep. It's been going on for a couple of weeks now. My already shaky mental sanity is seriously on the highway to the danger zone (can you believe I master Top Gun references even at 4:37am? I'm really great).

Insomnia sucks. It really does. You want to sleep, you have the opportunity to sleep, there's no one to keep you from sleeping (even the Facebook chat has been deserted), so you turn off the light, lay in bed, start counting sheep (I personally prefer to count squirrels, but that's just me), think of world peace, body lotion, jazz music and other soothing things, and... nothing. Nothing but sleeplessness. It's like you're beating the odds but you get no reward for it whatsoever.

The worst thing is, I'm writing this and wandering on the Internet like a lost soul, but there are so many profitable things I could be doing instead!
Let's make a list (I bet you totally saw that one coming--you're really great too). I could make the most of my vampiric sleep schedule by...

1. Working
That's what Batman would do.

2. Working out
Just not going to happen. Like, not now, not ever.

3. Catching up on TV shows
Except I"m used to do that during the day whenever I feel lazy.

4. Writing my masterpiece novel who will bring me fame and respect. And money
Because writing about writing it is not going to do it.

5. Updating my Facebook status
Uh oh

6. Painting my nails
But what happens if I manage to fall asleep before the nail polish dries?

7. Fighting crime
Too bad my superhero attire is in the wash. Plus, I got a run in my tights yesterday.

8. Drunk dialing
Too bad I'm not drunk.

9. Getting drunk
It's beer for breakfast!

10. Sleeping
Word.

Now it's 5:39am, the list is done and I'm still not sleeping. Instead I'm listening to Gotta Have You by The Weepies and dedicating it to my long lost love, Sleep:

No amount of coffee, no amount of crying
No amount of whiskey, no amount of wine
No, nothing else will do
I've gotta have you, I've gotta have you

Before I finally turn on the computer and try to get at least 2 hours of cell rejuvenation, I must tell you about this website. It's a lifetime in pictures, it's very touching and you have to see it. More details on the wikipedia page of the artist.
I highly recommend it: humanity at its most simple and yet at its best.

Now that I've spread enough sunshine (get it? I'm so funny when I don't sleep), it's time to go and find Morpheus.

Oops, wrong guy

Sweet Dreams Awakened

You know what I love about all-nighters?

The mood - the moon - the silence - the implications - the city belongs to me only - the 2 a.m cigarette - the feeling I'm floating in time - weird TV shows - the inspiration.

Everything.

All you soul searching people c'mon

You know when sometimes a song express exactly how you're feeling (eneri sunday, I hope you're reading this)?

Well this is it-- People C'mon,
by Delta Spirit. Those guys.

I could have written the lyrics. If I were any good at writing lyrics.

The awful part is that Delta Spirit came to WashU last year but it was before I knew about the Gargoyle so I missed them. Talk about being lame.

So there's this song. I think I don't even have to explain since the lyrics sum it all.

Also,
there's another one on a totally different level: Drumming Song by Florence + The Machine. Then again, you can figure it out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpLXQorSQe8
(Universal wants to promote their artists so much that they desactivated the embedding on videos. Very clever indeed.)

Think of it as a game. A boring game, but a game nonetheless. I'm calling it "Let's pretend someone cares about my state of mind." Play now, and keep scores because the winner gets a prize.

And I got something to say my friends
I will never lay down without a fight

'Cause in my dreams everything I'm wishing for keep coming true

They say live your life, but which life exactly—the one we have or the one we could explore?

In my mind I have all the novels I will never write.

In my eyes I have all the places I will never go, all the pictures I will never take, all the films I will never see.

On my lips all the kisses we will never share, on my fingers all the skins I will never touch, in my heart all the moments we will never have.

In my feet I have all the roads I will never take.

In my soul I have all the destinies I will never meet.

How do you make choices when you're faced with a canvas of possibilities? How can you go one way when you know there are so many more?

When your life is made of dreams, how do you know it’s time to wake up?

'Cause I'm a moon-walking cowboy, dusty riding and I don't know what's in store

Wow, it's been a while. I barely begun this blog and then left it unattended for a month. See, you're already learning so much about me: I love to initiate exciting (at least for me) things, but to keep them going, that's another matter. But I think I'll try harder this time --if not, my narcisstic urge to talk about myself will do the work for me.

But I have some good excuse for not having posted for this long. You want to know what I've been up to? No? I'm going to tell you anyway!

I survived finals thanks to huge amounts of caffeine and nicotine forcefully put into my body, I watched a sick amount of season finales (most of which were terrible), I took a road trip and fell in love with Memphis, I ate so much junk food I will never eat a burger again, I started running everyday while listening to angry rock songs, I had my first American picnic, I tried to address some of my issues and then decided that it would be better to leave them where they are, I went
to the top of the Arch, I've been listening non stop to Blitzen Trapper and "Season of Love" by Shiny Toy Guns (the latter has corny lyrics, but what can I say), I watched Freddy vs Jason and wished Freddy had won, I got tanned and bitten by crazy mosquitoes, I discovered this awesome blog way too late (which you can see by the url only, http://presidentgeorgebush.blogspot.com ), and I realized that bad timing was the story of my life. More on that later (see how I manage to efficiently build suspense? I'm so talented sometimes.)

Now, you want to know why I got caught up in such a whirlwind of activities? If the answer is no, well, you haven't learned much since you started reading this, have you?

This high level of agitation is due to the fact that (and this is when the violins start playing) I am leaving America in exactly 18 days--yep, thats eighteen! And so I am losing a little bit of my heart everyday that goes by. America, you had me at hello.

I don't know what will happen next, or what I will do. What am I supposed to do in a country where people understand my name? Where no one asks me where I'm from? How will I survive without students wearing flip-flops in January? Without frisbee? Without Jon Stewart? Without coffee shops? Without Target?

But most of all, what will I do without you guys? Discuss in 5 pages, font 12, double-spaced.

PS: the title of this post is borrowed from Blitzen Trapper's "Not Your Lover", and if you want me to really like you, you should listen to this band immediately.

Taxidermy Blues In Reverse

This is one of those music posts which I feel are going to abound in this blog, first because as CSS put it, music is my boyfriend (I am so not original in my metaphors, it's pathetic), and also because talking about obscure bands makes me cooler. Or at least it used to, since I just ruined it by typing it out loud. What can you do.

Today I have to spread the love and tell you about red red meat. Not actual meat, guys. Actually, some red meat sounds really good right now--with a nice pepper sauce and greasy French fries, mmmm. But I'm losing focus here. I was going to tell you about that '90s band, incidentally named Red Red Meat. See? I do have a point.

So, the other night I was going through a profound introspective phase ("What am I going to do with myself? Why do my plans go from likely-to-succeed to irresistibly-failing? Why is the nail polish I just put on already chipped?", this kind of stuff) and I decided to play some random music to soothe my soul (come on, I had spent 45 minutes waiting for that nail polish to dry!). That's how I stumbled upon Red Red Meat .

Long story short, it's really good. You know how you feel when the person you totally want to see naked invites you over? Well, it's exactly the opposite of how you feel when you listen to this band!! Rather, it produces the same feeling as when above-mentioned person steps on your heart as if it were nothing but a piece of... red red meat. I guess that's where the name of the band comes from.

Anyway, you should check it out. And then invite someone over. You know what I mean.
